Sweeney's Beach Antioch 1947
My fellow Facebook administrator Frank Goodyear's family came to Antioch in 1947. His father came west to work at the new Antioch Glass Plant. They moved to Sweeney's Beach, Wilbur Ave, (before Gaylord and the papermills) until they could find a house. When he talks about the beach, swimming and fishing at the beach you can see he remembers it fondly. I have a similar story my family camped at Brannon Island State Park for a month while our house was being built. I remember my dad boiling camp stove water to shave, putting on a suit and tie and driving to work from a camp ground. Me? I was 15, it was summertime, I was swimming, fishing and chasing girls on the beach. Fond memories.

Contra Loma Regional Park Bridge, Antioch, CA
Every Thanksgiving weekend I visit the park to work off the food & drink and see the fall/winter colors in the trees. This year there was no fog but we did have rain. I didn't really notice it until I got back to the car and had to turn on the wipers to get home. I have several favorite photos but this is Peggy's favorite and that really matters.

I was ready to try Vietnamese again. I had heard nice things about Da Nang Tourane and decided to give it a whirl. I sat down overwhelmed with a menu that should be cut in half. I saw something that sounded familiar on page one and ordered it. The waitress asked me if I wanted it mild, medium or hot? She asked me twice. Twice I said hot. Then I whimped out and changed to the medium (I saw I had two additional bottles of heat on the table already). The waitress brought me a third when she brought me the soup "the same heat mom used in making the dish" The soup was very tasty and plenty hot enough for me. Served with fresh basil, pineapple, chunky tomatoes, mushrooms, bean sprouts, celery, green onion and five nice prawns. I congratulated myself again for changing to the medium and I like hot food. I will order this again at $7.25 very soon. Hot rea was served in a cup .75. Note they are open seven days and open an hour early for lunch nice touch.
