Tips At Wine Tasting Events
There was a sommelier (certified expert), a gold medal wine maker, plenty of knowledgeable wine drinkers and me, the beer guy. The idea was to bring a bottle of California red Zinfandel to share with everyone. For $10 COCO WINE COMPANY supplied wine snacks and glassware. They brown bagged and numbered 12 wines! You're supposed to taste all of them and state your favorites (before the unveiling). I took the judging seriously. I was going to score each wine for bouquet, taste, and complexity (thinking several layers of flavor was a good thing). Well after the third taste my senses were blurred. They all smelled and tasted the same. So here's the tip, don't drink the wine, spit it out. I can't imagine a judge in a big competition being able to discern subtle differences. Maybe I just need more practice? I'll keep you posted.
