The population of Antioch in 1920 was about 1,900 people. I think they are all downtown looking for someplace to eat lunch. Looks like a booming mecca of commerce. The roads are still dirt. But the building on the right, with the clock, says Bank of Antioch. If you look at the HD version you can read the store signs, see flags, and see what looks like a parade. I'd like to walk around in this era for about a week. I would miss my HDTV, computer, smart phone, air conditioning... Antioch Historic Society's Photo .

Taking pictures of cows, green hills and early spring flowers is tough work. Peggy and I ended up in Byron the other day and decided to stop by an old stomping ground for a coldie. Someone has put some money and elbow grease into this place. I don't remember the first time I was here but I was in there quite a bit when I lived down the street in the early 90's. I was glad to see the old gal looking good (I actually looked for spider webs and dust and didn't see any. I asked Peggy how the ladies room was and she gave it a thumbs up). So I guess I won't hesitate next time I'm in the area and neither should you.

Coal got it all started in the 1880's. In 1906 Andrew Carnegie came west and opened a steel mill in Pittsburg, CA. Then sand was mined for glass. It's all a park now and a nice place to visit. Read the Times article about the tours.

I have to admit seeing this was a surprise. Orange patches of our state flower the Golden Poppy. I don't know if the purple flowers were lavender or not but it was beautiful to see the wild flowers. I may go the other direction this weekend or head out to Brentwood to see if the cherries are blooming. Enjoy the color while it is here.
