Cherie Cole added this sensational photo to the "You Know You're From Antioch When" facebook group. We are still awaiting confirmation on many details. The consensus is this picture was taken at a gas station on Bethel Island in the late 1940's or early '50's. The big guy on the right side (in shorts) looks like Itsie Marchetti brother of HOF Gino Marchetti of the Baltimore Colts.

50 Years Ago This Month
I was at the museum today looking at December 1964 editions of the Antioch Daily Ledger. This story caught my eye. I knew I could find out what happened to Lt. Robert L. Carter. I posted this photo on the Facebook YKYFAW page and within minutes we had boyhood friends, neighbors and a news account of the sad ending. Maybe a friend or relative of Robert's will see this and feel a little better that their family member is still remember and thanked for his service 50 years later.

Yes Tyler MacCallister, Oakley, CA was hanging with some tough SOB's last Saturday at Game Pod Pro in Antioch. This is where the tough guys learn to kick bad boy butt. Players run around and shoot and be shot in a huge indoor urban setting. You can do this all day and pay about $35 bucks (if you have your own equipment), or use can use some bad ass stuff for about $35 extra. Information officer, Rick G. (right) from Martinez, was helpful but gave me a firm "no way grandpa" when I asked him about shooting the big bullet behind him. David Caslavka, from DACAS REFRESHMENT, LLC, cooks a full array of hot gourmet bbq meats and sides to keep the troops full and happy every Saturday.
