2014 Antioch Sports Legends Inductees

2014 Antioch Sports Legends Inductees

Every year, for the last seven years, 14 individuals and 1 sports team is inducted into the Antioch Sports Legends Hall Of Fame Museum. This is a year long effort. People are nominated, research goes into authenticating their accomplishments. A ballot is written and members vote. Display cases are made for each inductee showing trophies, ribbons, medals, jerseys, newspaper clippings etc., Each October athletes return home, to where it all started, to see old coaches and friends. There is a breakfast at the museum, followed by a tour of the cases. Later they attend a dinner with their families to receive their award. I'm sure each inductee places their SPORTS LEGENDS award at the top of their list of treasured accomplishments.

Here We Go Again

In May and early June the Giants were beating everyone. I remember thinking these are our "salad days." There is no way they can keep this going and they didn't. On June 9th the Washington Nationals came to town and handed the Giants a 9-2 loss. The Giants went on to lose 22 of their next 32 games before the All Star break. They treaded water in the second half and got the last wild card spot available. I thought they would be fortunate to beat Pittsburgh and they did. I gave them little chance against the Nationals and yet they wrapped them up in 4 games! Now it's St. Louis, again. The Giants have their no hit mojo offense working and they are rolling the Cardinals. Lets hope they can keep it going for one more game and get to the series. For those of you wondering where another World Series ring for Bumgarner and Posey would put them on the all time list? The correct answer is 7 behind Yogi Berra and those amazing Yankees. Boy I'd like to beat the Yankees once in the World Series (I remember '62). Throw the A's on that dream team beat list too.

1957 Antioch High School Golf Team Inducted

1957 Antioch High School Golf Team

Yes, the 1957 Antioch High School Golf Team won it all in 1957. The coach Ben Favero was a teacher of mine and one of my favorites. Instead of teaching me mechanical drawing he should have taught me a golf swing. He used to call me hamburger for some reason. I think it was some sort of code phrase for "under achiever."

Peggy

Peggy's Home Yeah

I brought Peggy home from John Muir Hospital, Concord, yesterday. It was a long week. I'm sure it was longer on Peggy and her pets than it was on me. I knew where she was and saw her everyday. She is doing well and all of us are happy she is home. Thanks to all the hospital personnel, friends and family, for your prayers and support.
