I think most of us all had fun this 4th of July. I made it to the parade and took some of my own pictures but, my friend Beverly Knight (an award winning photographer) took the photo above and told me I can share it with you. Thanks Beverly.
After the parade it was off to the Pittsburg Mettle baseball game. I played on that field when it was a cow pasture in my youth. Now the field looks great, new electric scoreboard, sound system and covered bleachers make this a fine place to take in a ballgame. This is a pro league with men, not boys, playing. Here's an idea for a fundraiser. I'm pretty sure I can still hit. How much is it going to cost me to take some hack deep on this spankin' new field?
Next it was off to the fairgrounds. I was anxious to see how the volunteers and sponsors set up this new family friendly celebration. I was very impressed. Pony rides, jumpy's, giant slide, music all day, and enough food concessions to feed every taste. Jim Lanter one of the organizers ran an all day watermelon eating contest. I liked everything I saw today and look forward to more of the same next year.
Note: If you are one of those people who just has to fire off fireworks two weeks before the 4th please be considerate of your neighbors. Shoot them off just after dark and then stop. There is no need to drag this out for hours. Nobody wants to hear it. This is NOT entertaining for the kids trying to sleep, pets trying to stay calm and your neighbors trying to get some rest before the next day. Please think of others.
